Innovative Ph.D Research continues.
Visqueen, renowned innovators in horticultural polythene technology, are set to continue their sponsorship of Ph.D students at the University of Reading. This rewarding programme has facilitated previous spectral filter research by Drs. Mohammad Mpezamihigo, Angeliki Tatsiopoupolou and Dimitrios Doukas. Continuing the research will be Evangelos Tsormpatsidis who has just graduated with a M. Sc in Horticulture from Reading.
Evangelos begins his studies for a Doctorate later this month and will investigate how manipulation of the light spectrum using polythene technology can alter characteristics such as colour and flavour in a range of commercial plant species. Although this research will be based at the Centre for Horticulture it is likely to encompass both the Chemistry and Food Science Departments at Reading University.
A full work plan will be implemented over the coming months with experiments commencing in early Spring. Guidance for Evangelos will come from the highly acclaimed Soft Fruit Technology Group as well as support from Drs. Henbest and Fletcher at Visqueen.
Dr David Pendlebury, Managing Director of bpi.stretchfilms (Visqueen) commented ‘Visqueens commitment to Research & Development is reflected through our sponsorship of Evangelos and this innovative research. Such research complements Visqueens culture of continually enhancing our product range to maximise both quality and yield for Producers worldwide.’
