Grassland UK to offer glimpse of balewrapping’s future

News picture.Major agricultural shows have always been the ideal setting for manufacturers to showcase new products and new capabilities. However, at this year’s Grassland UK, which takes place on the 7th of May at the Bath & West Showground, bpi.agri plans to take that concept to a whole different level.

The leading producer of balewrap films such as Silotite®, Visqueen Poliwrap® and Polybale® has just spent £10 million upgrading its Leominster factory. As such, its staff will be waiting on its stand to tell visitors about how this expenditure has significantly increased its production capacity.

Plus, that’s just the beginning. bpi.agri’s employees will also be able to tell visitors about how the new technology installed will enable the production of next generation products such as SilotitePRO®.

Due for launch later in 2009, SilotitePRO® builds on the success of the manufacturer’s world leading Silotite product, which is used to wrap more than 40 million bales across 50 countries on 6 different continents every year. It offers all the same performance, but from a significantly thinner thickness of film.

A thinner film means more balewrap - and the ability to wrap more bales – with every reel, not to mention fewer stoppages for reel changes. This maximises machine and operator’s time, increasing productivity.

There are green benefits to SilotitePRO too. As it’s thinner, farmers and agricultural contractors use less film by volume to wrap each bale and create less waste by weight after those bales are opened. This reduced waste can even be reprocessed rather than sent to landfill as SilotitePRO is 100% recyclable.

The other pending addition to its range bpi.agri will promote at Grassland UK is an innovative alternative to netwrap known as Baletite®. As it’s made from polyethylene, Baletite actually saves farmers the time, effort and hassle of separating a balewrapping film from a netwrap after a bale is opened. Instead, as both items are made from the same material, they can be disposed of together.

Baletite also helps bales retain their shape more effectively and allows farmers to reduce unwanted wastage as unlike net wrap, no baled fodder can become enmeshed in it.

Speaking of the manufacturer’s forthcoming appearance at Grassland UK, John Lancaster, Commercial Director at bpi.agri, said: “Big things have happened at bpi.agri over the last year and where better to talk about them than at one of the major agricultural events of the year.

“We look forward to showing people just how excited we are about these latest developments and to highlighting how beneficial they will be to their balewrapping operations. SilotitePRO and Baletite are going to be just the first in a long line of other, equally impressive product innovations.”
